Program Manager - Anne Vail - Phone: (02) 6884 0197
The purpose of the Dubbo Plains Division of General Practice Immunisation Program is to provide support to General Practice and foster links with all immunisation providers to improve the overall immunisation coverage in the Dubbo / Plains Division of General Practice Area, thereby reducing the incidence of vaccine preventable diseases and complications.
DPDGP GPII Currently November 09 - 90.0% (November re-calculation).
Our target, as is yours, is to maintain immunisation rates >90%. Great work is being done within the division and we will continue to provide support to maintain and improve these rates.

STOP PRESS – H1N1 Influenza vaccine approved for children
The TGA has now registered the use of Panvax H1N1 influenza vaccine to include children aged from 6 months of age, and has also approved Panvax H1N1 Junior influenza vaccine specifically for use in children aged from 6 months up to 3 years of age. (The Panvax H1N1 Junior vaccine fomulation is the 7.5 ug HA in 0.25ml prefilled syringes.) Please note: the registration will not appear on the ARTG database until Friday 4 December.
Dosage of Panvax H1N1 vaccine for children
Age | D o s e | Formulation | Number of doses |
6 months - 35 months | 0.25ml (7.5Mg) | Panvax H1N1 Junior prefilled syringe or Panvax H1N1 multidose vial | 2 doses at least 4 weeks apart |
3 years – 9 years | 0.5ml (15Mg) | Panvax H1N1 multidose vial | 2 doses at least 4 weeks apart |
10 years and above | 0.5ml (15Mg) | Panvax H1N1 multidose vial | 1 dose |
Given the TGA registration allows for use of MDVs for all vaccinations, the vaccine can be administered to children aged 6 months to nine years from multi-dose vials immediately. This is consistent with advice from The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) that influenza vaccines containing thiomersal are safe in infants, children, adolescents and adults.ATAGI’s protocols for the use of vaccine in children are available via the Department’s health emergency website http://www.healthemergency.gov.au/internet/healthemergency/publishing.nsf Prefilled syringes are now available for ordering through your usual influenza vaccine ordering processes. Updated patient information sheets will be provided with the prefilled syringes and these sheets will be available shortly from the health emergency website.
PERTUSSIS VACCINE UPDATE
The pertussis epidemic continues in NSW. DTPa (Infanrix-hexa) can be given to babies from 6 weeks of age. Timely immunisation of infants is important because unvaccinated infants are at highest risk of infection and are also at high risk of complications. Pertussis immunity wanes over time, many older children and adults are susceptible to infection and can be the source of new infections in infants.
CURRENTLY, dTpa vaccine is provided FREE for all new parents, grandparents and any other adults who regularly care for infants less than 12 months of age.
Who is eligible for the FREE dTpa vaccine?
- Couples who are planning a pregnancy (both parents).
- New parents (mothers should be vaccinated as soon as possible after childbirth).
- Grandparents and other adults who will regularly care for the infant.
GPs should consider vaccinating infants at 6 weeks if the opportunity arises. Infanrix-hexa, Prevenar and Rotarix are all licensed for use in infants from 6 weeks of age. The next scheduled vaccines should be given at 4 and 6 months of age.
