The better access to mental health care initiative aims to increase community access to general practitioners, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists and other allied mental health professionals for mental health care. GP Mental Health Treatment Plan Flow Chart 2009.pdf

GPs have the option of three referral pathways:

1. Medicare Registered Psychologists & other allied mental health professionals
2. Accessing Psychological Support 
3. Psychiatrists in private practice

• GPs can refer patients who are being managed under a GP Mental Health Treatment Plan
• All patients who are assessed as having a Mental Disorder as defined in the MBS are eligible for services under the initiative
