Workforce
The Workforce Program aims to support GPs and practices with
recruitment and retention to ensure that an adequate general practice workforce
is both sustained and increased.
Direct services include:
-
Assistance with the process for applying for Area of Need status
[Information on Area of Need can be found on the NSW Health website

Assistance with recruitment and placement of Overseas Trained Doctors
- Helping
you find a locum by putting you in touch with providers or putting notices of
locum availability in weekly faxed newsletter to practices
- Keeping
up to date with GP recruitment and retention
- Sending
an
Information
package
to new GPs
-
Liaison with the Area Health Service and maintenance of a local workforce
database

Medical Students - Work closely with the School of Rural Health (Dubbo
Clinical School) and Sydney
and Newcastle Universities
to assist with student placements in general practice

Registrars -
Work together with
Rhedwest
to ensure that all registrars are aware of all divisional
programs particularly education and training
-
Coordinate the Medical Specialist Outreach Assistance Scheme
Grants Available
Following is information on
grants that may be of benefit to GPs and the community.
- Rural Doctors Network
- there are a number of grants available through the Rural Doctors Network.
These include Relocation subsidies, CPD vouchers and Training grants. More
information can be found on the NSW Rural Doctors Network

- Rural Medical
Infrastructure Fund (RMIF) - The Rural Medical Infrastructure Fund is a
three year initiative providing funding to small rural councils to recruit or
retain general practitioners, thus making it easier to recruit or retain
general practitioners. Details can be found at
